Downtown Joe

Yankees manager Joe Girardi will represent the 2009 World Series champions at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the unveiling of a granite strip commemorating last fall’s ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes.

The skipper will join Elizabeth H. Berger, president of the Alliance for Downtown New York, and a dozen members of the Downtown Little League Yankees at the ceremony at 233 Broadway on the west side of the street in front of the historic Woolworth Building.

The Downtown Alliance, the business improvement district serving lower Manhattan south of Chambers Street, has embedded a strip for each of the 204 parades that have run along the famed Canyon of Heroes parade route on lower Broadway. Downtown Alliance chairman Robert R. Douglass will also attend the ceremony.
