The Yankees will celebrate the career of Derek Jeter during the month of September. Named the 11th captain in team history on June 3, 2003, Jeter is the Yankees’ all-time leader in hits (3,445), games (2,723), stolen bases (357), at-bats (11,108), singles (2,581), doubles (539) and hit by pitches (168). He ranks sixth on Major League Baseball’s all-time hits list and has the most hits of any shortstop in the game’s history.
Derek Jeter Day will be Sunday, Sept. 7 at Yankee Stadium. Prior to the scheduled 1:05 p.m. game against the Royals, former teammates, family members and other guests are expected to take part in a special ceremony highlighting Jeter’s career. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by noon.
As part of the day’s celebration, the Yankees will wear a patch depicting Jeter’s final season logo on the left sleeve of their uniform and cap. The patch will be worn by the team from Sept. 7 through the end of the 2014 season.
New Era recently introduced a limited-edition Derek Jeter Collectible Cap Set. The collection includes three hats that celebrate Jeter’s five World Championships, his 3,000 hits milestone and his upcoming retirement. Only 2,014 units have been created and are currently being sold exclusively at Stadium team stores while supplies last.
Beginning Thursday, Sept. 18, Yankees fans will also have the opportunity to purchase a limited-edition Derek Jeter commemorative issue of Yankees Magazine, the team’s official game-day program. The special issue will provide an exclusive look back at Jeter’s career in pinstripes, from his first mention in the publication in 1992 through coverage of the Sept. 7 ceremony.
Among highlights to be featured include a complete retrospective of Jeter’s 20-year career, a Q&A with Jeter and Ernie Banks, his parents’ recollection of his development from young Yankees fan to the franchise’s 11th captain, and a four-panel centerpiece featuring a graphical retelling of Jeter’s career highlights.

As part of a special pregame tribute video to be shown at the Stadium prior to Jeter’s final regular season home game Thursday, Sept. 25, a Yankees film crew will be taking to the streets of New York to gather personal tributes and thank you’s from Yankees fans.
The Yankees are also conducting a “One Word for 2” social media campaign throughout September on the team’s official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Each day during the month, players and fans will be featured on each respective platform providing one word that they feel best describes Jeter along with their reasons for choosing it. The Yankees were named the 2012 MLB “Club Retailer of the Year” by Major League Baseball Properties for the Club’s commitment to driving merchandise sales. The Yankees and Legends Hospitality, led by Legends general manager of retail Michael Loparo, earned the honor based on significant improvements to the Yankee Stadium clubhouse store as well as consistent product innovation and reinvention.
Since its inception in 2005, the MLB “Club Retailer of the Year” Award has been awarded based on a combination of sales, vendor/customer feedback and creative marketing and merchandising efforts. In 2012, the Yankees focused on advancing the retail experience of their fans and customer base. A New Era Tajima embroidery machine was added to the Great Hall at the Stadium to offer fans a personalized experience, resulting in increased interest in headwear. The team store was completely redesigned, including a restructuring of the floor plan to create a streamlined approach for the customer. The Yankees also worked with MLB to place Astroturf in the store to feature the Authentic Collection On-field Areas.
The Yankees and Legends Hospitality worked with MLB’s design services department to create new graphics for three key locations to add dimension and consistent branding. Other areas of innovation and development were the addition of the MLB and Victoria’s Secret PINK co-branded line and a Yankees Knievel Motorcycle in front of the store.
“The demand among fans for Yankees merchandise and other licensed products is always strong given the iconic nature of the team and their brand, but the Yankees deserve special praise for not resting on their laurels and continuing to innovate and provide creative new ways for fans to express their team pride,” MLB senior vice president for licensing Howard Smith said. “The clubhouse store at Yankee Stadium has evolved considerably just in the four years since the new ballpark opened. Mike Loparo and the Yankees are especially deserving of this honor.”

The Yankees announced Friday that limited-edition, co-branded Yankees/JAY-Z merchandise will be sold exclusively at Yankee Stadium beginning Monday. The merchandise will be available at the Stadium through the JAY-Z / Eminem concerts scheduled there Sept. 13 and 14.
All items will feature the presence of Yankees and JAY-Z logos and have been seen and approved by JAY-Z. Merchandise will include men’s and women’s T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts – all by Majestic – along with New Era 59/50 fitted Yankees caps with the album logo from JAY-Z’s The Blueprint 3.
The merchandise has been created to commemorate the Stadium’s first official concerts Sept. 13-14, when JAY-Z and Eminem will co-headline in the Bronx. The concerts make up the second half of the artists’ “Home and Home” tour and will follow their joint performances at Detroit’s Comerica Park Sept. 3 and 4.
Beginning Monday, Yankees/JAY-Z merchandise can be purchased in-Stadium during games or seven days a week at the Yankee Stadium Great Hall Team Store near Gate 6, located on the northwest corner of 161st Street and River Avenue. The hours of operation for the Gate 6 store are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. On all days or nights that the Yankees play home games, the store stays open until one hour after the game ends.
